The Department of English at Michigan State University regularly offers a range of graduate seminars across research areas. We also offer a Film Studies Graduate Certificate for interested students. Masters and doctoral students may pursue graduate certifications and specializations offered by other departments and programs across the university, as well.
In addition to formal training in the classroom, our graduate students attend departmental professionalizing workshops, where English faculty and advanced graduate students discuss innovations in pedagogy, writing in different academic genres, academic publishing, and applying for meaningful jobs outside of academia. Working with faculty, graduate students also propose and co-organize research workshops around specific critical questions. These research workshops meet throughout the academic year to discuss new publications, workshop student writing, and host outside speakers.
