Mary M. Juzwik

Holding a joint appointment in English and Teacher Education, Mary M. Juzwik teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English education and sometimes serves as Subject Area Leader for the secondary English Education program. She holds degrees in English from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, (PhD), Middlebury College (MA), and Wheaton College (BA). After a teaching internship at an urban school in Chicago, she spent six years working as a middle and high school English teacher on the Navajo Nation and in Boulder, Colorado. She now studies issues in English Education, including narrative processes and classroom discourse; dialogue in teaching and teacher education; dialogic writing theory, instruction, and practice; and most recently, religious literacy practices, pedagogies, and interpretive traditions. Her interdisciplinary work on these issues engages with scholarly traditions such as narrative studies, interactional sociolinguistics, rhetorical theory, and religious studies. She serves as co-editor of Research in the Teaching of English.
