B.A. in English with Teacher Education Certification, Elementary Education
Students pursuing a career in teaching elementary education must apply to the College of Education at the beginning of their sophomore year. Before being accepted into that program, students can pursue an English major, with the core requirements almost the same as for a general studies B.A. in English, with the addition of ENG 302 (Introduction to English Language Studies). This will leave them needing approximately seven electives, which can be selected toward a broad range of courses helpful in teaching middle school English, such as creative writing, American literature, British literature and drama courses.
