What are the GRE codes that I need to know for sending in my scores?
The university code is 1465, and the department code is 2501.
Do I need to take the GRE subject test for literature in English?
No. The department only requires the general test.
How recent do my GRE scores have to be?
The GRE scores are acceptable for five years.
How long may my writing sample be?
The writing sample should be approximately 20-25 pages.
Where should I send my application fee?
Your $50 application fee should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions.
Funding and Employment
Do I have to submit different applications for each employing unit?
At this time, your application to the English department constitutes a joint application for teaching assistantships from English and the Center for Integrative Studies in the Arts and Humanities. However, the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and American Cultures (WRAC) is a separate employing unit with a separate application form and deadline. Applications to WRAC must be submitted separately.
Where can I find out information about health insurance?
Refer to the Office of Human Resources information about student health insurance. Note that there are differences in coverage between the student insurance base plan and the graduate assistantship plan. This site contains links to a variety of information on the health insurance plans, including enrollment information, coverage information, and a link to Chickering group (the insurance provider).
Where can I find out information about my pay and job duties as a graduate assistant?
The best place to go for a variety of information is the Graduate School. Their site contains many links and documents, including: the Graduate Assistant Handbook and the Graduate Employees Union contract, which was negotiated through the graduate assistant labor union (in effect through 2008).
